Amanda Warren
about the artist:
Working mostly with handmade felt and with natural and recycled fabrics, Amanda uses painting, print and stitch to respond to ideas. Inspiration comes from many sources; she finds experiences are often accompanied by literary recollections, words and images. Legends, poetry and the circle of the seasons provide rich seams to tap. These layered themes are combined in many pieces, and even the simplest has evolved from different strands over time.
When working, Amanda prefers not to tie down the final designs in too much detail, preferring to trust her instinct and to let the content and processes evolve as each piece progresses.

about the art work:
"I once read a version of ‘The Fisherman and the Mermaid’ written as if derived from an Irish oral tradition, and it is to my memory of this and other similar tales and poems that I turned as a starting point for the project. The theme is playful as well as sad, and redolent of the sea. I tried to celebrate the imagination of its originators and to indulge my more light-hearted creative impulses as I worked on the box and its contents. I hope that you enjoy looking at it."
