Juliet Lockhart
about the artist:
Juliet is a sculptor and installation artist working in various visual media. She has always been fascinated by puppets. Puppets stand on the cusp of what is real and what is longed for, figures of metamorphosis, objects as much dead as alive.
Juliet considers: what if we look back to our early childhood, to a time when inanimate objects spoke to us, we gave them characters and voices. From idle chat at a dolls tea party to the command to slaughter a platoon of plastic soldiers, we acted out our fantasies and fears through the animation of such items.
What if those objects actually came to life - what if the rocking horse cantered out of the house, if Barbie tottered across the carpet, if the teddy bear with one eye hanging from a thread gripped your hand with his paw - would it be the most terrifying thing imaginable, or just maybe, the most exciting thing imaginable?

about the art work:
My work for this exhibition takes inspiration from artists and writers to muse on how it might be possible to bring a puppet to life.
