Lorna Rand
about the artist:
Lorna Rand was born and bred in Essex but spent thirty-five years living and working in Devon where she exhibited with the West Country Embroiderers, the South West Textile Group and Prism. She returned to her roots in Essex in 2004, joining and exhibiting with East Anglian Stitch Textiles.
Lorna is a life member of the Embroiderers’ Guild and a member of the Computer Textile Design Group. She became interested in Nine Artists last year whilst looking for more stimulus.
The idea of a story with a limited number of pieces of work to fit in a small box to be completed in a set period of time appealed, the exhibition being the finished result.

about the art work:
The story is of a 6 week circular journey by car, starting a Harwich ferry, through Holland to Germany (to see my family), continuing from Germany through Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and back through Sweden, Denmark, Germany to England.
A wonderful experience, the history, culture and folklore made the journey so interesting. The artefacts made are only a very small part of the story but to reduce the whole experience to 9 objects was extremely difficult".
